The Problem

Most people have no way to track how their wrists are actually moving.

You might notice stiffness, asymmetry between sides, a change in grip, or wrists that just feel "off" — but without any way to measure the movement, you have no baseline, no reference, and no way to know if things are getting better or worse.

Jointy gives you a structured, repeatable way to check four key areas of wrist function and see how they change over days and weeks — using only your iPhone.

No baseline to compare against

Without a starting measurement, you can't tell if your wrist function is improving, declining, or staying the same.

Asymmetry goes unnoticed

Left and right wrists often perform differently — but without measurement, most people can't detect or track that gap.

No way to measure progress

Wrist stiffness and range of motion changes gradually. Without regular measurement, those changes are invisible.

How It Works

Three steps. Under two minutes.

Jointy's full bilateral wrist assessment takes less than two minutes and requires only your iPhone.

Hold your iPhone

Sit comfortably with your arm resting at 90°, elbow tucked. Hold the phone flat in your palm, screen up. One wrist at a time.

Complete 4 guided wrist movements

Each measurement is 10 seconds. On-screen instructions show you exactly what to do for each test.

  • Rotation — forearm turn, back and forth
  • Control — smooth wrist circles
  • Flex — bend toward and away
  • Stability — hold perfectly still

See your scores and track progress

Jointy shows your left wrist score, right wrist score, overall score, and balance between sides. Every session is logged so you can see how your scores change over time.

The Four Measurements

What Jointy measures — and why each one matters.

Each measurement targets a distinct aspect of wrist and forearm function. All four are scored 0–100 and contribute equally to your overall score.

Rotation test: turning forearm like turning a key
Rotation

Forearm Rotation Range

Turn your wrist like turning a key — rotating your forearm back and forth with your elbow tucked. Jointy's gyroscope tracks the full arc of rotation in both directions and measures how smoothly you move through it. Forearm rotation is one of the most-used movements in daily life, from opening jars to typing.

10-second test · Gyroscope-based
Control test: drawing smooth circular wrist movements
Control

Wrist Circle Consistency

Draw slow, steady circles with your wrist. Jointy tracks how consistently you maintain speed and how smoothly you move through the full circle. Control is what separates range of motion from functional movement — you can have good range but poor control. Control also responds quickly to focused practice.

10-second test · Velocity consistency
Flex test: bending wrist toward and away from you
Flex

Flexion & Extension Range

Bend your wrist toward you (flexion), then extend it past flat (extension). Jointy measures both peak flexion and peak extension angles using your phone's motion sensors. A healthy wrist typically reaches around 60° of flexion and 35° of extension. Most people lose extension range first — especially desk workers.

Stability test: holding wrist perfectly still
Stability

Wrist Steadiness Hold

Hold your wrist perfectly still for 10 seconds. Jointy's accelerometer measures how much your wrist moves — capturing both average tremor (RMS) and any sudden spikes. Stability is the foundation of every grip, lift, and fine motor task. It's often the most overlooked measurement, and the one most affected by fatigue and overuse.

Your Results

Clear scores. Both wrists. Every session.

After each assessment, Jointy shows a full breakdown of your wrist function — not just a single number, but a complete picture of how both wrists are performing and where the gap between them is.

  • Excellent 90 – 100  ·  Peak wrist function
  • Strong 80 – 89  ·  High functional range
  • Good 65 – 79  ·  Typical for most adults
  • Building 50 – 64  ·  Room to improve
  • Developing 0 – 49  ·  Needs focused attention

Daily Check-In & Tracking

Not just a one-time score. A picture of how you change.

A single session gives you a snapshot. What makes Jointy useful is the trend — seeing whether your scores are improving, stable, or declining over days and weeks.

Progress history

Every session is logged with timestamp, left/right scores, and per-subscore breakdown.

Daily check-in

Run a full bilateral assessment in under two minutes to keep your trend data fresh.

Weekly report

After a week of consistent check-ins, Jointy generates a weekly summary showing your average scores, per-subscore trends, and balance shifts.

Focus recommendations

Jointy identifies your weakest subscore and suggests short guided wrist reset routines to target that area.

Who It's For

Built for people who rely on their wrists every day.

Jointy is useful for anyone who wants a clearer way to monitor wrist movement, stiffness, balance, and progress over time.

Desk Workers

Hours of typing and mousing hold wrists in a static position. Jointy tracks the stiffness and range-of-motion changes that build up over time.

Gamers

Extended gaming sessions put wrists under repetitive strain. Use Jointy to monitor rotation, control, and stability — and track whether changes are accumulating.

Musicians

Pianists, guitarists, and other instrumentalists depend on precise wrist function. Jointy gives a clear measurement of what's happening across both wrists.

Gym & Fitness Users

Wrist loading in lifting, CrossFit, and calisthenics changes wrist function over time. Track your baseline and spot asymmetry before it becomes an issue.

Manual Labor & Tradespeople

Construction, plumbing, mechanics — high-demand hand work puts cumulative load on both wrists. Jointy helps you monitor that load over time.

Progress Trackers

For anyone who notices stiffness, reduced range, or imbalance between sides and wants a structured, data-driven way to see if things are changing.

FAQ

Common questions

Straightforward answers about how Jointy works.

Jointy is an iPhone app that uses your phone's built-in motion sensors to measure wrist function across four areas: rotation, control, flexibility, and steadiness. It scores each wrist independently on a 0–100 scale and lets you track how your wrist movement changes over time. It is not a diagnostic or medical app.
Jointy uses the iPhone's gyroscope and accelerometer (Core Motion) to capture motion data at 60 samples per second. You hold the phone in your hand and complete four short guided wrist movements — each lasting 10 seconds. The app analyzes the motion data in real time and generates scores for rotation range, control consistency, flexion/extension range, and steadiness.
No. Jointy does not use the camera at any point. It uses only the iPhone's built-in gyroscope and accelerometer to capture wrist movement data. No images or video are captured.
No. Jointy measures and tracks wrist movement patterns — it does not diagnose conditions, detect carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, or any other medical condition, and it does not replace professional medical evaluation. If you have wrist pain, numbness, or a medical concern, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
After each session, Jointy shows: an overall wrist health score (0–100), separate left wrist and right wrist scores, a balance status (Balanced / Slight / Focus) showing how symmetrical your wrists are, and four subscore breakdowns — Rotation, Control, Flex, and Stability. Scores are labeled Excellent (90+), Strong (80–89), Good (65–79), Building (50–64), or Developing (below 50).
No. Jointy is a measurement and tracking app, not a physical therapy program. It includes short guided wrist reset routines based on your lowest subscore — but these are not therapy programs and should not be treated as medical treatment. If you have a wrist injury or medical condition, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
All wrist motion data and scores are stored locally on your iPhone. Jointy's privacy manifest confirms that no data is collected or transmitted off-device. No account is required. No tracking.
